Tutorial
Welcome to our collecting form for the inventory of the geosite and thank you for participating to our test!
Please note that this form is devoted to the geological and geomorphological description of the geosites, so information concerning geography, relation with the institution, conservation conditions and so on are not involved in this inventory.
The form is organized into sections to help the compilation of the form.
Each section is devoted to a precise type of information, that derives from a precise type of feature. For example, the section “Lithology” is devoted to the description of the types of rocks that are possible to find in the geosite. This information is directly related to the geologic unit (or units) that are outcropping in the geosite. For this reason, in the section it will be required:
a) to select the geologic unit (or units) that are outcropping in the geosite (from the drop-down menu)
b) to select the lithology (or lithologies) that describe the geosite, reporting the information that is present in the description of the geologic unit.
Each type of information is repeated more times. For example, the Lithology section has three fields (1st, 2nd and 3rd Lithology) which can be filled with controlled vocabulary (Standard vocabulary for lithology from CGI), plus a fourth field with free text. Please, use as much as possible the controlled vocabulary. For example, if you are describing a geosite with outcropping of multiple lithologies, select the lithologies in order of importance. Use the textual description field only if you don’t find the right term in the drop-down menu or if you need to add some comment.
Each section should be filled based on the existence of geosite elements that compose the geosite that you are describing. For example, the field lithology is filled following the description of the geologic units that occur in the geosite. For this reason, while filling you can check the geosite elements page to see if the element that you need is already uploaded: in this case, just report the relevant information. Otherwise, please add the element with the correct form (links in every section) and then go on with the description of the geosite. Please note that a newly uploaded items only appear after refreshing this page. So, before filling in this form, check for all the missing elements in this list, add the new items and then fill in.
FILLING-IN STEP BY STEP
- Focus on the types of geosite elements that you will need to describe your geosite. You might need one or more of the following types of items: geologic units, geomorphologic features, geologic events, geologic structures, composition parts.
- Check if all the needed geosite elements are already present in the system. You can check both in the drop-down menu in the form, both in the dedicated pages.
- If you need to add some elements, please fill the corresponding collecting form. You will find the links in the geosite collecting form, or check the following list, organized in the suggested order of data collection:
- When you have uploaded all the needed items, refresh the page of the geosite collecting form, to allow the page to access to the newly added items.
- Fill in the form for the geosite and submit.
- After the submission, please take our survey to evaluate this description system at this link.
